My concentration for my direct sales business on personal development and "how to" market training. I offer, rarely, website information. I feel strongly about offering valuable content and then building a rapport. If this leads to a purchase then we have already developed a foundation of trust. Jo

I knew Squidoo was going after the network marketing industry but I didn't know these other companies were too. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense because, like you said, they are throwing the baby out with the bath water. There are lots of people out there offering quality content but may get slapped down because of the wide swipe they are taking at the industry just to get rid of a few scammers. Hopefully, these companies will take a step back and realize that they are doing more harm than good.

One tip I would add is to make sure that the content you are putting out on social networks is of good quality. I mostly use Twitter and I get people who follow me but when I go to their profile, they have nothing but self promotional tweets in their stream.

I don't have a problem with people promoting their business. But if your entire stream consists of tweets of commercials for your opportunity, I'm not going to follow you back and most other people will avoid you as well. Why? Because there is nothing there for us. Most people don't like commercials but are willing to sit through them and even check them out if the program is of interest to them. If you have good, useful content in your Twitter stream then people are more likely to listen to what you have to say. Just my two cents.

It looks like instead of going after the more blatant spammers, they are "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". There are a lot of people engaged in self branding finding their educational videos deleted.

No one is sure where they will draw the line - will they pull an account that posts info about an MLM webinar?

If one's home business team is doing their job right, there is no need to turn your profile into a walking billboard.

It's true, the scammers who promise things like "$40,000 In 40 Minutes" are making it difficult for honest, hardworking people to do the right things with their viable micro-businesses. Those are the kinds of marketers we want removed if Google has a mind to do it. Smart marketers will stick to better methods of approach and true networking. You are so right to suggest a reality check for everyone, too. There's a wide gray area between the most professional and the unscrupulous!! The worst part is that there are scammers who pose as good guys. I'd like to take a few of them out! :)
