How to use social media to attract leadsThis video is a recorded webinar hosted by Kay Brasher where I outlined the key tasks to do and to avoid for social media. In this webinar, I cover how to build a strong network on Facebook and Twitter, the steps to get more eyes on your posts and likes to your fan page, hints, tips, and tricks for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) including the recent changes made by Google’s Panda algorithmic change.

  • We also discuss how to keep yourself safe online and avoid spam and being a spammer
  • Remember, customers will always ask: W.I.I.F.M.? “What’s In It For Me?”
  • We talk about the importance of, before posting, asking yourself the hard questions
  • “Why should anyone want to read my posts?”
  • “Why would anyone want to like my page?”
  • We also review how you are your brand and what that means and how what you post will impact your customers
  • We talk about how you can be your brand
  • We also discuss how to improve visibility on your posts such as asking more Yes/No questions to encourage comments
  • We also cover what you need to do to be safe online such as not publishing info useful to identity thieves
  • Here is a tip: Don’t publish your real Birthday.  Use a different day and year but use a date near your real date to avoid confusion
  • Another tip is to avoid “out of office” auto replies as well and be careful about clicking on links or opening email
  • We  also discuss how to identify unethical activity or what is known as “Black Hat”Here is another tip: If all you post is about how great your product and/or business is the only ones listening are reverse recruiters
  • Also it is technically illegal business practice to post pictures of your commission checks
  • Did you know that G+ has groups actively searching out spam and getting those accounts deleted
  • So, what do you want your brand to say about you?
  • We also talk about how companies conduct social media searches when hiring
  • If they don’t like what you post…
  • If you use a backlink generator, Panda may have rendered that tool useless
  • Also, content farms don’t help and may hurt
  • Did you know that has been marked as spam?  Avoid using for email marketing
  • Also, Twitter now blocks tiny.url
  • HootSuite has a similar problem with people on Facebook blocking all posts from that service
All this and a some extra tips and tricks are discussed in this webinar.  One note: The software that recorded the webinar did a poor job with the audio but it is clear enough to understand what I am saying.

    Thanks Chris for the kind words. It was my pleasure to host the webinar with you. You did a fantastic presentation and taught the audience well on what To Do and Not to do as far as Social Media is concerned.

    One of the biggest things that I took away from it was “If you are not feeling well or if you are depressed stay off of the computer.”

    I can’t tell you how many times I have seen people miss just this one thing.

    It was a lot of fun and I cannot agree more about seeing people post honest, well meaning updates about a hard time in their lives only to have it cost them customers and business. Is it fair? No. Is it right? No. but it is true.
